With over 25 years of experience in the Radio and Entertainment business in both Commercial and Public radio sectors he brings you “Real Gospel” exactly what your listeners are looking for.
The Xman is a radio veteran and noted professional in the business. As a former Account Executive for The Cromwell Group a leading company in the Radio Industry; as well as overnight and weekend personality for the company Lawson went on to become a local affiliate producer of the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning show for over 7 years for Cumulus media. While at Cumulus Lawson worked as the “Overnight Personality”, “Weekend Personality”, “The Quiet Storm”, and filled in for “Mid-Days” and “Afternoon Drive.” While producing for the “Tom Joyner”, Lawson locally produced for Cumulus the syndicated, “Doug Banks Show”, “The Russ Par Show”, and helped to produce a ground breaking live Sunday morning talk show called, “What’s the 411?” with Sharon Kay. As producer of “What’s the 411,” “Sharon Kay” went on to win “Best Talk Show Host of the Year” as well as became nominated over four times for the March of Dime’s National Radio awards. Lawson was also nominated as Producer of the Year four times. During Lawson’s tenure working in secular radio interviewing and meeting celebrity’s from actors such as the late Bernie Mack, rappers and R&B artist from the group 112, to Destiny’s Child and many others he answered his call by God into the ministry of Jesus Christ and went to seminary at “The American Baptist College” in Nashville TN.
He later left Cumulus Media and went to work for Jazzy 88.1FM WFSK with Sharon Kay who was named General Manager of the radio station and Sharon Kay named Elder Lawson Program Director. While at Jazzy 88 Lawson continued to put his stamp on the radio industry by teaching others how to better produce in radio while he Co-produced a myriad of shows within the stations lineup. It was here when God spoke to Elder Lawson’s heart and told him to create “Real Gospel” with the Xman. “Real Gospel” with the Xman is the place where “God gets the Glory and Artist tell their story.” Real Gospel is a “Three Hour” weekend program that features gospel music from across the urban genre. It’s a mixture of Traditional, Contemporary, Inspirational, and everything in-between God led to reach and meet the listeners where they are. Elder Lawson has spoken friends who were former R&B Artist who are now serving the Lord, local artist from around the country to well-known artist such as Pastor John P. Kee, to the new gospel sensation Jekalyn Carr. Our interviews are known to be filled with prayer, tears, laughter, inspiration and hope for God’s people. The artists get to tell their story and God always gets the Glory which blesses the people. No wonder he’s been twice nominated as for the Stellar Awards “Gospel Announcer of the Year.” Real Gospel is currently recorded, mixed and produced in the Jazzy 88FM studios. Every interview is approximately 15 minutes and Real Gospel levels the playing field by allowing equal music play with today’s top artist as well as the local artist from around the country whose music qualifies as quality music but may not have the money to have a giant P.R. company to support them in a time where many syndicated programs sound alike.
Real Gospel is not a countdown show but does play music from Billboards top ten so even if your currently airing a countdown program, “Real Gospel’ will still give you something very different. Why Three Hours? Working as an Account Executive taught Elder Lawson that in order for a Sales team to be successful it helps to have a program that gives them more for their advertising dollars with a name that will be synonymous for that market and three great hours at the right day part defiantly accomplishes that goal. Having a Three hour program not only blesses the listeners, and the Artist, but it also creates a stable three hour window for clients to feel good about the block of time they are being asked or are hearing and would like to advertise. It’s a win; win for everyone and as the decision maker for your radio station isn’t that why you should choose “Real Gospel” with the Xman?
